Believe it or not, the loonie is still valuable in some parts of the world. Sure, maybe not in Florida, since the Canadian dollar has dropped by 1% against the U.S. dollar over the last year, but there are destinations where the loonie comes out on top. Take Japan, for example, where the loonie has surged about 12% against the yen in the past year, offering more bang for your buck. People are taking advantage of this — 123,367 Canadians visited Japan in the first three months of 2024, a 66.4% increase from last year. Another great destination is Argentina, where the Canadian dollar has soared by 288% against the local currency in the past year. While Japan and Argentina are well-known examples, there are other lesser-known destinations where your loonie goes further. In Turkey, the Canadian dollar has increased by about 59% in the last year, and the dollar is up around 7% against the Indonesian rupiah. So, cancel your trip to Florida and consider a locale where your dollar means a lot more.
