Next round is on the groom

As the post-pandemic wedding boom picks up in Canada, so are bachelor and bachelorette festivities. The only problem? They’ve become more expensive than ever (thanks, inflation).

Why it matters: People are too stressed about the cost of literally everything else to also worry about racking up credit card debt for what’s supposed to be a carefree time, parading around the city in coordinated outfits, and taking a few too many tequila shots with friends.

And as trendy multi-day experience-based events pick up in popularity, the costs are soaring higher than the groom-to-be’s blood alcohol levels:

  • Travel costs for flights, rental cars, and hotels have increased by 48.5%, 7.3%, and 18.5% this year, respectively, pushing destination celebrations out of budget.

  • Ticket prices saw the biggest price increase across all goods and services last month in the US (a staple of the classic bro-centric and sporty bachelor bash).

  • Food inflation has outpaced general inflation this year, while production costs have boosted the cost of booze… running up the cost of even a low-key dinner and drinks.

Bottom line: Given these outrageous prices, it's understandable why 36% of respondents to a survey by Assure said they’ve declined a wedding party invitation for financial reasons.
